To help the victims of the recent flooding in the Var region (southeastern France), Nicolas Hibon, responsible of the Logistics department in Fos-sur-Mer made an appeal for donations via email. The coordinator of the ArcelorMittal Méditerrannée Foundation contacted Nicolas to help out. It was the start of a true chain reaction of solidarity and generosity…
A room was put at disposal to store all the donated clothing, blankets, household appliances, toys etc. that were donated by the employees. The colleagues of Nicolas helped him to stack and store the gifts.
In 10 days time, there was even no more room in the room!
Thanks to the Facility Management Department of Fos-sur-Mer, Nicolas could use a van to transport the donations to the city of Hyères, where they were surprised to see the high level of empathy and mobilization from the employees of an industrial company like ArcelorMittal. All the gifts were divided according to the demand.
‘I live in the Var region’, says Nicolas. ‘Luckily, I have not been affected by the floods, but I wanted to help out the families who have not been so lucky. I could not just sit still and rest while my neighbours had lost so much.”
“I really want to thank all the people who made this happen. Thanks to all of you, words like sharing, solidarity and assistance acquire additional significance.”
