Pre-phosphating has a positive impact on the stamping and corrosion protection properties of electrolytically galvanised (EZ) steel. The steel is in high demand from carmakers who typically utilise it to create the exposed parts of vehicles.
To improve our product range to carmakers in Spain, ArcelorMittal has spent €1.4 million upgrading the pre-phosphating capabilities of the electrogalvanisation line at our mill in Sagunto (Spain).
Commissioned in December 2011, the new facilities have reduced both costs and production time. During 2012, more than 10,000 tonnes of
pre-phosphated steels were delivered to our automotive customers with excellent results. Volume is expected to triple from 2013.
