About 700 visitors took part in the first „Vocational Training Event“ at ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt on 21 September 2012. They used the opportunity to get to know the site and its vocational training centre in much more detail as well as to receive first-hand information on apprenticeship, academic studies and career opportunities at ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt.
From 5 p.m. till late after 10 p.m., there was a great participation in the different workshops and classrooms of the vocational training centre. Here, apprentices answered to questions asked by the visitors, who in turn had the opportunity to try to do drilling, lathing, bending, milling or forging works and to take home the self-made candleholders, pencil holders or friendship rings.
Very popular were also the bus trips through the plant. They were part of a very diverse entertainment program including live music, a Segway-Fun-Trail, piling boxes together with the plant’s fire brigade, a lottery and auction for charity purposes. Students of the university of Bergakademie Freiberg presented a home-made racing car and pupils of „Oberstufenzentrum Eisenhüttenstadt“ (college of higher education) presented their self-made Robotinos. The grammar school „Albert Schweitzer“ participated to the event with an impressive cultural program.
The representatives of the municipality and of AWO (Workers’ Welfare Association) advised the youngsters where they can rent low-cost flats in the city of Eisenhüttenstadt. The health insurance company „Brandenburgische BKK“ advised on interesting details concerning health insurance. In addition, grilled sausages, soup from the field kitchen and home-made cake were offered.
