With ArcelorMittal’s new electrical steels production capacity at Mardyck coming on-stream in northern France, and the creation of a dynamic new dedicated team for the Electrical Steels segment, the Group is focused on delivering the best solutions and value for its customers in the fast-growing e-mobility, and renewable energy markets, such as hydro or wind energy, as well as new opportunities such as data centres.

ArcelorMittal's Non-Grain Oriented (NGO) electrical steels power a wide range of applications – including traction motors for automotive, wind, hydro, and other industrial uses – meeting the most demanding performance requirements.

The Mardyck site near Dunkirk has seen the completion of a major investment in new electrical steel production lines. It incorporates a new cold rolling mill and annealing lines for processing Non-Grain Oriented (NGO) silicon steel used for the automotive, energy and wider industrial sectors. This increased capacity, together with the existing Saint-Chély-d’Apcher site in southern France, has increased by threefold ArcelorMittal’s electrical steels annual production capability to 300,000 tonnes.

Seizing this opportunity ArcelorMittal has simultaneously established a new dedicated management team for all its electrical steels in Europe, targeting greater agility to deliver the best value, products and solutions to its customers.

“To answer the exciting technical challenges and customer needs in what is a fast-evolving electrical steels market, we have put together a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team for our Electrical Steels business, across Sales, Marketing, Product Development, Technical and Service Support and Strategy. We of course also have access to the Group’s unique global R&D expertise.

Our aim is to increase our speed, efficiency, responsiveness and quality, and ultimately deliver the best value offering in the market,” says Olivier Gervais, who was appointed Head of Segment, Electrical Steels in November 2024. “We have purposefully instilled an agile “start-up”, entrepreneurial mindset within the team, that is totally customer-centred and aligned with their ever-evolving needs and expectations.”

A specialist team has been established, bringing deep and extensive experience in electrical steels. Driven by the mission to serve customers, the team is dedicated to fostering close relationships, ensuring the highest quality products, developing industry-leading supply services and offers, providing technical expertise in electrical steel applications, aligning product development with customer needs and timelines, and anticipating market trends and requirements.

The newly established ArcelorMittal Electrical Steels segment joins forces to deliver the best products and services to customers.

“The electrical steels market is growing rapidly on the back of the massive changes taking place in the automotive, energy and industrial sectors. Our job is to foresee these developments and understand the needs of our customers so that we can collaborate on delivering the right solutions for them,” added Olivier.
