When Systemair decided to create a new design for its Topvex air handling units, the company had some specific requirements. The units needed a casing which could withstand the corrosive atmosphere of a C5 marine environment, and which could resist fingerprints when it was touched. After a wide search and some comprehensive testing, Systemair opted for Magnelis® with an Easyfilm® coating from ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products. The combination of the two products has resulted in a solution with an ultramodern and classy look which will endure for the lifetime of the Topvex unit, even in the most severe environments.

“Our experience with Magnelis® and Easyfilm® has been very positive,” notes Johan Söderström, Strategic Purchasing Manager for Systemair in Sweden. “The products offer several processing and technical advantages including excellent workability during forming and welding, and lower weight compared to the material we used before. The self-healing effect of Magnelis® also protects cut edges and scratches to ensure long-term corrosion resistance.”

Compact and energy-efficient air handling

With people spending more time indoors, and the global COVID-19 pandemic, good air quality has never been so critical.

“Key advantages of the Topvex design include compactness and energy efficiency,” explains Johan Söderström. “Systemair designed the smallest Topvex unit to fit into a space just 900 mm wide. That’s the width of a typical doorway, so it can go almost anywhere. And thanks to its built-in rotary heat exchangers, the Topvex uses a minimal amount of energy.”

Topvex air handling units are typically used to heat and/or cool small commercial buildings, schools, shops, apartment blocks, and restaurants

Sustainability drives material selection

Like most Nordic companies, Systemair has a strong focus on sustainability. “We strive to reduce the environmental impact of the systems we produce by selecting sustainable materials and using the life cycle assessment (LCA) approach,” says Johan Söderström. “Magnelis® performs very well in terms of sustainability due to the proximity of ArcelorMittal’s mills to our production facilities and the longer life it provides for our products. The fact that Magnelis® with Easyfilm® is fully recyclable at the end of its life is also very important.”

Systemair has 27 production facilities in 20 countries and operations in 51 countries
