Gestamp has become the first Tier 1 supplier in the automotive sector to buy XCarb® green steel certificates from ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products. The steels covered by the certificates will be used to produce automotive components and will enable Gestamp to deepen its commitment to the decarbonisation of its business.
“At Gestamp, we have an ambitious sustainability strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of our activity,” notes Javier Imaz, Procurement and CAPEX Corporate Director at Gestamp. “This will help our customers to reduce their own Scope 3 emissions by using our products.”

Gestamp is constantly seeking ways to make its industrial activity as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible. The company has set clear commitments and targets for the reduction of emissions from its own operations and its supply chain by 2030. The targets have been established in accordance with scientific criteria approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). SBTi is a partnership between CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Gestamp will pass the XCarb® green steel certificates to customers who purchase products manufactured with the steels covered by the certificates. This will enable the world's leading vehicle manufacturers to utilise lightweight steel products and benefit from decarbonisation activities undertaken by ArcelorMittal.
