ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products
ArcelorMittal spends more on research and development than any other steelmaker in Europe. This is not just because of our size, but because of our deep commitment to be at the forefront of technology and to make products that best serve the needs of our customers. This commitment goes beyond researchers working in our labs.
What excites our teams is helping a customer to innovate and develop better end products based on our new and improved steel solutions. That might be lightweighting, or it might be creating a building that is aesthetically appealing which will remain durable for decades.
You will discover several good examples further in this newsletter.
While blockbuster new products from our automotive segment are well known, we also innovate in other segments. In 2016 alone, we released eight new products which meet the needs of diverse markets from architecture to shipbuilding. This brings our total number of new products for non-automotive segments to more than 16 over the last two years.
As I mentioned before, we also customise products to meet specific customer requirements. In 2016, more than 15 percent of our non-automotive order book was comprised of customised solutions. Across our entire business, the level of customisation is higher still.
